OP Walk Departure: Wednesday, March 23rd

With the start of the 2011 OP Walk surgical mission only four days away, final on-site preparations by Mission Coordinator and Chief Operating Officer, Roya Ghazinouri and OR Coordinator, Paul Laemmle are set to begin in Santo Domingo this afternoon. The pair left from Boston this morning, and will be meeting with our Dominican colleagues to finalize plans and begin the arduous task of unpacking the more than 500 boxes of cargo shipped last month to Hospital Plaza de la Salud.

The rest of the Op Walk team will be arriving on the evening of Wednesday, March 23rd and will hit the ground running with registration, pre-op clinic and the first of the more than 60 total joint replacements to begin early Thursday morning.

We are all very excited to begin our week of collaborative efforts with Dr. Alcantara and the host of Dominican physicians, therapists, nurses, and students who we will be working beside. We are humbled and grateful to the more than 50 patients who will be trusting in us for their care; we are committed to providing that care at the highest level.

There will be much more to come as we begin our mission next week...please return here for daily updates!
